Third Nature: Project Review.

Third Nature: St. Kjeld's
Climate-adapted Neighbourhood, Østerbro, Copenhagen.

This week, I have decided to stray from the provided list and review one of my favourite firms, Third Nature. They have earned that position as a result of the innovation and resilience that goes into their designs. This is demonstrated perfectly in the project that I have chosen to look at; the St. Kjeld's climate-adapted neighbourhood.

The project takes a scary truth - rapid climate change - and places it under an optimistic lens. It positions the risk associated with climate change, such as extreme weather and urban heat island effect, as opportunities for blue-green urban development that is going to add social value. It uses this climate emergency, which has called for change of our urban areas (among everything else), as an opportunity to also improve our our urban areas for community and social change. The vision incorporates green and blue infrastructure in every aspect of development, with the purpose of improving biodiversity. But, this infrastructure is multi-functional and also serves as a tool for community engagement and cohesion.

this project demonstrates the multi-functionality of green and blue infrastructure, highlighting it as an invaluable tool that should be included in every development.
