Quick-fire Garden Design

This week, at uni, we were tasked with creating a quick courtyard garden design based around a given shape. This shape (on mine was the rectangle on the left of the page) was the only context we had to go on, other than the boundary and orientation of the site. The site was bounded by 4 tall walls, so there was very limited sunlight. I decided to create a garden, focused around the concept of reflection. It featured tall water mirror sculptures - one being the rectangular shape. The surface of the courtyard was all pond, except from a stepping platforms, floating fern islands and a central island. The central island featured a solitude chair, designated for self-reflection, in-keeping with the theme.

This task was a fun, quick-fire design activity, that challenged me to make quick and meaningful decisions. The 10-minute time constraint inhibited me from doubting or second-guessing myself, but encouraged me to be bold, assertive and intentional with my decisions.
