Voronoi Diagram: Mosaic Habitat.
The concept that I have chosen to use to underpin my design is “Urban rewilding”. I will use the principles of mosaic habitat to create a diverse landscape with high ecological value. In order to create the designations and borders for this mosaic habitat, I used the principles of voronoi. This is a mathematical concept, which is found frequently throughout nature, such as in honeycomb, giraffe patterns and leaf veins. The process of creating a voronoi diagram involves joining random points to their nearest counterparts to create triangles. Then you mark the mid points of each triangle side and draw a line at these points, perpendicular to the line that it is bisecting. This results in random polygons that tesselate perfectly with each other. I carried out this process on a trace overlay. The results are shown below.
