AECOM Project Review
AECOM: Long Valley, Nature Park, Hong Kong.
This week's project review is on AECOM's Long Valley Nature Park, Hong Kong. Having previously reviewed smaller landscape practices and individual designers, I wanted to choose a more corporate, global company, such as AECOM. Looking through their landscape architecture portfolio, the project I was drawn the Long `Valley Nature Park project because of the buzzwords of biodiversity and conservation that align with my interests.
The park is situated amongst a designated site for mixed residential development. It's design and function mantra is to prioritise ecological integrity, ensuring and securing the continued success of the surrounding community. The project appears to position the relationship between people and nature as reciprocical, an attitude that is often disparaged when it comes to development. The park centres around habitat preservation and enhancement, acknowledging the nature services, such as local food production and community wellbeing.
Current statistics, monitoring the progress of the park, show that it is succeeding in significantly boosting biodiversity, as shown by the above interest. The park has also been the location for the discovery of two new species!
